It is essential for us to recognize and understand that every church act and doctrine must be mirrored or directly connected to Jesus Christ and His finished works. Every doctrine practiced in our churches today must come from the perspective of the finished works of Jesus Christ. It can start with Abraham, Moses, Joshua, David, and other great men in the Old Testament, but it must be in line with the finished works of Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 12:2, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…(KJV).” Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith. Who is an author? An Author is a creator and an originator of something. We need to be able to rightly divide the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”). We need to be able to divide the word of truth rightly; we need to accurately divide the Bible by asking questions like:
- When was it said?
- To whom was it said?
- In what dispensation was it said?
- Under what covenant was the instruction given?
You need to ask yourself all these questions and many more when reading the Bible. For instance, the New Testament/Covenant did not really begin until after Jesus died on the cross. Please, read the other posts below for more understanding.
It is crucial for you to understand that every doctrine that does not follow the Author (Jesus) is not a right doctrine. Jesus is also the finisher. So, this simply means that it must reflect Jesus and His finished works at the end. I am not asking you to throw away or forget the Old Testament or the Old Covenant because 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (KJV).” But you must rightly divide the word of truth; you must accurately divide the Bible and every doctrine you are performing to be mirrored through Christ and His finished works. If it is not mirrored through Jesus and His finished works, then it is not the right doctrine, and we should not be doing it.
