The New Covenant or the Covenant of Grace (Part 2)

The new covenant

In part 1, we shared some scriptures identifying the contrast between the Old and the New Covenants and the terms of the New Covenant. I will advise you to read part 1 and continue here in part 2. Let’s keep digging into the scriptures;

Hebrews 8:6-9, “But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. (KJV).” This is the New Covenant/Covenant of Grace. We should be living under this Covenant; the Old Covenant has expired. This is not saying that we should abandon or forget all the 10 commandments and the other 603 commandments of the Old Covenant, but we should understand that obeying those commandments cannot make us righteous or right before God; performance-based Christianity cannot help us get in right standing or in position to be blessed by God. The only thing that can do so is by believing in Jesus Christ and what He has already done.

Hebrews 8:10, “ For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.” God will put His laws and direction in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. The Amplified Version reads, “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their minds, even upon their innermost thoughts and understanding, and engrave them upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. (AMPC).” So, God’s direction, guidance, and instructions will now be by the Holy Spirit who is in us (1 Corinthians 3:16: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”).

Finally, it is crucial for us to understand that while Jesus was on earth, He was asked a question in Matthew 22:36-40, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Even all the 613 commandments in the Old Covenant was already wrapped up into two when Jesus came, which is to love God with all our hearts, soul, and mind, and also to love our neighbour as ourselves. The Holy Spirit is the One that will continue to work the Love of God in our hearts.

Love of God

Knowing God
That We May Know Him

In Christianity, the doctrine of the Trinity describes God as one God in three divine Persons (each of the three Persons is God himself). The Most Holy Trinity comprises God the Father, God the Son (which is Jesus Christ God), and God the Holy Spirit.
